KEN FERNS

Runway Report

When Ken Ferns told me, "my men's line is funky and urban, an experiment in prints and colors, with easier silhouettes to balance the craziness in my portrayal," I instinctively knew his pre-finale showcase at India Luxury Style Week would make an exciting runway statement.

Those who've observed Ferns' ascent would have noted he designs for a rarefied customer... the kind who prefers a playful, smart look and is willing to pay for the privilege. With anticipation in the air at the packed house, each look had a slick resort vibe with print on print stripes and geometric birds 'n' flowers, in pop summer shades, as he tacked fluid silhouettes close to the body. The jumpsuits, sheer shirts, bermudas, pants and outerwear had a couture-like finish and a youthful fit — accessorised with stylish shades! "I've been experimental though keeping commercial preferences in mind" he grinned after everyone surrounded him with high-fives!

Walking out of the show area, the thought that stayed with me was: like all Ferns' shows, this too was entirely true to his design aesthetic. The tailoring was as impeccable as it was wearable and would not require pruning to be ready for retail. Yes, 'Soda' by Ken Ferns was impressive—his finest outing in recent times.
