Heading over to Olive Bistro, Cyber Hub? Expect huge portions and big-hearted hospitality! For INR 1500+ with unlimited IMFL alcohol and INR 1000+ without alcohol, guests are treated to Sunday Table Brunch — a cornucopia of culinary delights in kitsch-chic indoors or verandah bathed in the glow of mashals. Add to this a singer crooning classic and contemporary melodies that sooth and relax, compounding the pleasure of brunch while sipping Sangria.
Arriving at 1, Meenu Namit, Archana Mehta and I were seated in the verandah and handed the brunch menu — it has everything you want and more than you can eat! Surveying the layout, we noted that the food's presentation and menu composition was far above the norm. I can say that this can be due in part to the personal touch of the Chef de Cuisine and the other is team commitment to design a sumptuous spread. Since two of us were non-vegetarians and one was vegan, we shared our culinary preferences with the server, who handled the assortment of appetisers, entrees and dessert with a knowledgeable carriage. Following flutes of Sangria packed with fruits, 'Potato and Jalapeño Poppers' was the first to arrive and no one wasted time putting it away! The 'Beer Batter Fried Fish' was next; it was so light and tender, the pieces almost fell off the fork! As was 'Crumb Fried Shrimps'. We were then served thin-crust 'Jerk Marinated Chicken Pizza' and 'Asparagus, Ricotta and Walnut Pizza' laced with cheese. Delicious!! I would recommend it to diners who have a leaning towards pizza.
Time flew by as Sangria, conversation and camaraderie took precedence. Pretty soon, the server was back with 'Eggs Benedict'—with bacon or spinach—on Toasted English Muffin with Hollandaise. Could this get any better? Yes! Up next were burger sliders which we wolfed down! And then it was time for entrees. My friends both chose 'Pasta with Slow Roast Tomato, Capers in Walnut Pesto Dressing' while I went for 'Grilled Basa with Buttered Vegetables' — it was aromatic and delicious! Now, we were stuffed to the brim, but the dessert selection was so tempting, we were unable to resist the waffles with maple syrup and a platter of 'Flourless Chocolate Torte', 'Baked Red Currant Cheesecake’ and 'Berry Eton Mess', ending the afternoon with black coffee and conversation (punctuated with giggles). All said and done, we had a delightful time at Olive Bistro and I perceive Table Brunch becoming a favourite Sunday destination for those who like warm hospitality complemented by large platters of flavourful dishes! That's the spirit of the bistro—Real Big and Real Good!! Bon Appétit. (12.1.2015)
