Indian Designers

Granddaughter of acclaimed artist and photographer J.P. Singhal and daughter of designer Dinesh Singhal, Payal grew up amidst films, fashion and art. After completing a design degree at SNDT Mumbai, summer school at The Parsons School of Design and certificate courses at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, she launched her label which focuses on the global Indian bride and opened flagships in Mumbai, New York and New Jersey.

In the US, Payal worked on projects with The Asia Society and Sakhi for South Asian Women, The South Asian Women's Leadership Forum and The Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust. She was subsequently invited by the City of Chicago and the City of Houston to represent Indian Fashion. After showcasing at the Fashion Week of the Americas in Miami and Singapore Fashion Festival, she made a triumphant return to India after seven years. Today, Payal Singhal e-commerce portal ships worldwide.

The Payal Singhal look is clearly defined—and therefore recognisable—anyplace. The designer herself projects an elegance and sureness of vision that make her, still, the best image with which to market her own brand. So, it it a wonder the editor of British Vogue, Dolly Jones, commented on one of her collections: 'gorgeous dresses for dressing up in downtown New York with just enough of the genuine Indian magic that designers all over the world try to recreate.'
