Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by Beatles, released in 1969. The recording sessions of the album were the last in which all four Beatles participated and critics now view the album as Beatles' best and rank it as one of the greatest albums of all time. So when Beatles—inspired "Abbey Road Pub and Kitchen" opened in Gurgaon, my friend Meenu Namit and I were keen to check it out! Walking in, we were thrilled to see it was a shrine for 60s fans with a yellow submarine bar, Vespa seats, Beatles' music, art and memorabilia.

Located in DLF Cyber City, it's a refreshing change from other pubs that serve beer and comfort food, for several reasons. First, it's a Beatles' shrine. This alone makes it an exception. Second, it serves a neat selection of beer and beer cocktails. A third reason is the excellent bar snacks and entrees. Since my friend is vegan and I'm a carnivore, we asked the manager for recommendations and began with cocktails and snacks. I ordered a tall chilled glass of 'Michelada' — beer and lime juice topped with worcestershire and Tabasco: 'fiery' doesn’t begin to describe it! The accompanying wok tossed spicy chicken momos was finger lickin' delicious and I wolfed it down in no time! Meenu ordered ‘Dizzy Lizzy': vodka and soda topped with Tabasco, to which she added mint and green chilli to liven it up! It was accompanied by 'The Abbey Road Vegetarian Platte' with jalapeño cheese poppers, paneer tikka, lentil kebabs and bruschetta!

Perusing the menu for entrees, I ordered 'Shepherds Pie' while Meenu went for 'John Lenon Burger' and we decided to split a pizza. She mentioned the burger was a hit: a soft bun that enveloped a bean patty and grilled veggies with melted cheddar and fresh pesto. My British pie with mince lamb and potato mash was the highlight of luncheon as each forkful elected murmurs of pure foodgasm:: comfort cuisine that I'll be back for many, many times!! Refilling our cocktails, we split 'Evergreen Beatles Pizza' topped with spinach, corn, mushroom, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes and onions. Indulging in the music and lively conversation, we saved room for dessert, creamy cupcakes and Devils Cake, which looked so delicious, I had to click. It was terrific!

Leaving the pub at 4 pm, I feel Abbey Road Pub and Kitchen does well due to its uniqueness. They handle themselves well, are humble and considerate! Do check it out if you're a Beatles fan or simply in the mood for beer and pub grub! I’m sure you'll agree the food and the beer cocktails is excellent. Cheers!
