Runway Report

Packed schedules and live absorption of Fashion on the Internet being as they are, it was charming to turn up to a midday show and find it packed, followed by a collection whose eclectic-ethnic aesthetic, revival of Odisha's Kotpad weave and traditional dyeing method 'Aal' i.e. mulberries cultivated for dyeing textiles, has immeasurable goodwill on its side. This was yet another collection at Amazon India Fashion Week in which Virtues by Ashish, Viral and Vikrant took the house heritage and integrated them into the current trends.

Titled 'Mrs. Nair's High Tea', the largely monochromatic palette encouraged guests to focus on the layered dresses, capes, Ikat woven frocks, ankle-length pants and off-shoulder tops — showcasing handwork techniques of pleating and quilting. I loved the caped minidress, quilted layered and pleated corset dress and Ikat woven frock! The high point of the show, of course, was singer Sona Mohapatra, looking elegant in a orange layered pleated bohemian dress, dancing to her song 'Tere Ishq Nachaya' for delighted guests.
