50 Shades of plum and sindoor! For Shaan-e-Pakistan, designer Umar Sayeed approached bridalwear through a subtly modern lens, hitting upon the the idea of effervescence and weightlessness. Which morphed into "Bride of Pakistan" — sumptuous ensembles crafted with rich silk weaves. Though the garments were ideal for a nikaah and its accompanying occasions, the designer didn't ignore the red carpet and black-tie event—so sculpted kurtas, shot through with vintage gold coil, antique zardozi tankas and lavish hand embroideries, were every bit as glamorous as the bridal lehenga. "It's for a unique bride," he allowed, adding he could think of several clients who fit that bill. After all, most of the looks were beautifully elegant by day and sensual by night. And very, very wearable!
