''Designing is something personal, largely focussing on a designer's individual aesthetic. It's not a struggle-as one would believe; one should have an eye for comfort and elegance, with the ensemble designed so it looks fabulous when a model wearing it comes out on to the catwalk'' Kolkata designer Sumit DasGupta had once told me. For the uninitiated, his grandfather contributed to the freedom movement by giving handcrafted khadi to freedom fighters Chittaranjan Das, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Subhash Chandra Bose.

So is it any wonder his label 'Sorbomangala By Sumit Dasgupta' is steeped in Indian culture and the choice of fabrics for this collection too is khadi silk and khadi jute? Right from the first look, Sumit DasGupta orchestrated a bridal line; I loved the sherwanis, the kurta pyjamas worn with stunning shawls, and the lehengas intricately embellished with zardosi, ari and resham. There was something for everyone here — in fact, ensembles with handpainted design were perfect for friends and family of the couple!! And, let's not forget showstopper Waseem Amrohi, who was the picture perfect Indian bridegroom in a red gold ensemble and a royal necklace!

Reminiscing about the showcase, the pop of rich festive colour brought a shot of energy to the showcase… with guests expressing their desire to book most of the pieces amid cheers and congratulatory hugs!
