Runway Report

For Delhi Times Lifestyle Week, Siddhartha Tytler delighted guests with a spectacular couture line. Turning his attention to metalosophy, he used a hint of brilliant gold on a rigor black and white palette, to conjure a feel of filtered glamour.

The tightness and rigor in the menswear presentation was exceptional and the contrast of texture, tone and surface had a dark intensity — a black and white floral jacket worn over a black pathani suit, had a bold graphic punch and the classic black sherwani worn with a black and white floral patiala is a stylish alternative to the classic suit. Meanwhile, the lame gold sherwani with hand embroideries, the textured black and lame gold sherwani with a black patiala, the floral sherwani with slim white pants or black patiala, the floral shirt with a black patiala and long outerwear, and the floral kurta pyjama with a black waistcoat are designed to be keepers, not seasonal fashion.

Womenswear elicited a similar response. The simplicity of silhouette, the vivacious floral print and the signature couture embellishment with a restrained hand added a fierce touch of visual assertiveness to all looks though Sucheta Sharma in a black and white floral kalidaar lehenga and ivory crop top with zipper detailing and Sonalika Sahay in a black and gold floral sari had all of us reaching for our phones to record the look and tag it as must-have! Other hot-sellers include the floral sari with a textured, sheer blouse; the black and white floral kurta with a black and gold kalidaar lehenga; the black, white and gold sleeveless kurta pyjama — and the line of saris. The pastel saris with a black and white floral jacket and the black saris worn with lame gold textured floral blouse, could be worn off the catwalk into an A-list festivity!

Walking out of the showing, I couldn't help but wonder how Tytler had used metalosophy, intricate threadwork, appliqué and crystal application with restrained precision to make each look very, very wearable. Makes you wonder—now that the designer has aced globally relevant Indian couture, what will he take on next?
