Runway Report

Austere chic? In Sabyasachi's ethnic potpourri the concept is not only possible—it's inevitable. "I've always been inspired by different cultures" he had once told me. "I want to convey a positive message of global communion." He succeeded. With serene models wafting onstage in long skirts and embroidered Pashmina, draped and layered tops, lace saris and flowing dresses, Sabyasachi seamlessly blended "the straitjacket discipline of New York, the nostalgia of the British Raj in Kolkata, the subversive decadence of Berlin, the romance of Paris and the bohemian flair of Barcelona" with Indian looks.

Adeptly blending eastern and western influences—needlepoint, boutis, zardozi, kantha and block printing co-existed with rhinestones and bows—the couturier also showed masculine looks and i loved the three-tiered silhouette of Nehru-style long kurtas, Pashmina shawls glinting with zardozi and straight trousers! PS This review would not be complete if i didn't mention the breathtaking headbands, stacked cuffs and clutches from Sabyasachi's new label 'Sabyasachi by Sabyasachi' which debuted at Sotheby's London.
