RAJESH PRATAP SINGH
Runway Report

"There is no artifice here," Rajesh Pratap Singh said before his spring summer 2012 show. "No theatrics. I want the focus to be on the clothes." Not a bad idea as the designer's latest effort—"to initiate a dialogue on the relevance of handloom and indigenous handmade apparels" as he put it—was his strongest to date. Rajesh Pratap Singh worked with handloom weaves to turn out dhoti pants, fluid shirtdresses and Indi coats. There was more texture and more colours as opposed to the minimalist looks the designer has opted for of late. Chanderis in modern silhouettes, slim belts and acrylic neckpieces, floral and graphic prints kept it all balanced and the fine level of artisanship in the clothes made one wonder why more designers do not follow suit!
