Runway Report

Presenting a collection at Amazon India Fashion Week after a five-year haitus, it was clear that Prashant Verma wished to be viewed as artist and designer. The SS16 presentation was intensely personal and steeped in inspiration from the time he spent in New York.

His interest in art and travel marked the collection with poignant moments of beauty, eschewing drama and cliches for a stunning showing that married unlikely bedfellows — androgynous tailored looks and artistic prints. Few know that the prints took form from photographs of graffiti and other New York scenes he clicked and edited on a mobile phone and sent to the printer! As models showcased the looks, you couldn't have found a woman in the audience who didn't want to be them. The black tailored suit—styled with carefully tousled hair and a red lip — made a strong style statement! Even the androgynous element was sensuous; the slim silhouette—one paired with a sequinned inner—will give less extroverted types a reason to add tailoring to their closets! For evening, there were draped tunics worn with slim pants and evening gowns, some with sequins, others with artistic prints. Despite the powerhouse looks, the designer’s final walk as a man with prosthetic make-up was impressive in its message — "let’s stop caring about what other will think!"
