Runway Report

Steeped in inspiration from Mexican revolutionary artist Frida Kahlo, whose works were filled with vibrant Mexican folk elements, 'Forbidden Love' by Payal Jain at Amazon India Fashion Week was a potpourri of organic fabrics, warm colors, bold checks, floral prints and experimental treatments.

If Payal Jain's collections tend to reflect stations in her life, pin her 25th year celebratory showcase to the "vintage luxury" moment. It embraced bohemian maxi dresses, detailed shirts, bold floral jumpsuits, full skirts, capes and summer jackets. There was no scaling down here or in the accessories and the only thing that rivaled them were the floral headbands and geek-chic spectacles!! I loved the bold flowers which appeared on boho-chic ensembles and accessories! For guests, this was a collection that underlined the go-to certainties of Jain's appeal — couture codes and polished formality. And, there was a hearty round of applause when friends and family including her mother, Shivani Wazir Pasrich, Neelam Pratap Rudy, Noyonika Chatterjee, Tanira Sethi and Sarita Shashi walked the ramp!

My last thoughts? There was an almost something-for-everyone quality to this boho-luxe showcase... and these days that's smart business for a label!
