Runway Report

Parvesh and Jai's work is more about subtext than text and for Summer Resort 2011 they said it was 'Madhubani Cubism.' "In the tech era, our inspiration took a U-turn for rural roots", explained the duo, adding "Cubism and modern art are not scientific or intellectual: they are visual and came from the eye and mind of one of the greatest geniuses in art history: Pablo Picasso. The core of this collection is 'Madhubani Cubism' as we have combined cubism and Madhubani paintings of rural India."

This theme translated into a beach-worthy mix of basics—black bodice embellished with crystallized animal motifs, beach covers with sequined shoulders, sheer ponchos embellished with crystallized fish, embroidered bikinis and patchwork appliqué shrugs—that focused on ease, proportion and shape. Flora and fauna in addition to crystallized animals, birds and fish were a prevalent theme. Titled "Rural Species", the silk garments in the showing had a three-dimensional sheen with the usage of hand painting with pigment colors, crystals and appliqué work. Paneling drew the eye—wavelike—down the body. Overall, the impression was light, chic and wearable. "Blue is the emerging color this season and fur will be back again," the duo forecasted on emerging trends.

The show ended with Geeta Basra flaunting a fluid lehenga worn with a dupatta embellished with gota work.
