MERCEDES-BENZ WORLD CATWALK INDIA
Runway Report

Mercedes Benz World Catwalk India is a platform that successfully bridged celebrated Indian and International designers on a single runway! In a previous post on Explosive Fashion, we feted the chairpersons secure in the knowledge that their rich experience would guarantee the success of this star-truffled event... and we were right as Mumbai's elite set sipped champagne and enjoyed the one-of-its-kind event.

The show opened with pieces from Mark Fast's collection. The Canadian designer—who trained in London at the prestigious Central Saint Martins University—showed an elegant collection with autumn hues and neat lines. Celebrated for knitwear, his collection was smart, sassy and full of punch! Yellow, gold and orange knit dresses with mesh and tassels strode down the runway and ended with an orange woven dress that was undoubtedly a fan favorite!

Excitement was palpable for Issa by Brazilian-bred Daniella Helayel. Everyone in the well-informed front row was aware that the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is one of its celebrated clients as are Madonna, Scarlet Johansson and Jennifer Lopez and was looking forward to the showing. The designer thrilled them with a pineapple tree dress, fluid pink maxi dress and blue polka-dot tea dress—a perfect mix of her flamboyant Brazilian roots and subtle British sensibilities acquired since her move to London in 1999.

Central Saint Martins graduate Todd Lynn sent out a collection that displayed his skill for structure and form. The former right hand man to Roland Mouret and Top Shop New Generation Award winner introduced himself to audiences by sending out models in structured silk coats, dresses and skirts in a palette of black, storm blue and lilac grey... constructed from a mix of fabrics ranging from cotton to silk and linen!

Felder Felder by German twins Annette and Daniela sent out a balance of contrasts. The nominees of Best Emerging Designers at British Fashion Awards exhibited chiffon and silk dresses in black-and-white with silver spiked embellishments. Their rock chic aesthetic was seen in each creation as were their trademark style sensibilities that have wowed celebrities such as Katy Perry and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Mercedes Benz World Catwalk India closed with Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna who have wowed the chic set with clean silhouettes and fine detailing and once again presented gorgeous flared pants and cocktail dresses. A striking mix of structure and dazzle was on display and one could easily visualize their muses Frieda Pinto and Kareena Kapoor shining on the red carpet in any one of them!
