Runway Report

For some time, women have made their case—quite literally—for a holiday wardrobe. Meghna Patankar's collection for India Beach Fashion Week fits into the scheme of easy, languid looks for Resort that flaunt vivacious color and print. "One of the things that inspires me the most is colors, and that could be the reason I am fascinated by Mexico. I have not only taken cues from its traditional aesthetics and culture but also the streets and how the creative community loves fashion and experiments with it. Overall, Bordado and Otomi embroideries and Talavera art has been the inspiration for prints and embroideries" she told me.

The Meghna Patankar girl is well-travelled and has license to experiment with her personal style and to her delight Resort 2017 offered myriad looks for her to pick and style. She could be a collegiate who heads from the beach to the club or a fashionista who lunches aboard a yatch—this was the designer in form. And while the collection was chiefly daywear most of it was resort chic. The printed boho-chic dresses were both vintage and sexy as were the structured jackets, kimonos, beach co-ordinates and accessories. We loved the way the designer let the vivacious prints dominate—her knife-sharp tailoring on lightweight Rayon, cotton and georgette are wait-list material!!
