MASABA
Runway Report

For a far-flung inspiration, look no further than Masaba's muse: poet Roman Payne's character Saskia. Add to it her love for Goa and Sixties' style. Sounds heady? It is, but she skillfully honed in on the easy appeal of a wanderess' wardrobe. Lush modern fabrics such as satin- jersey- crepe- and bright colors were the core elements at work here and the collection was heavy on saris and cutout sari gowns, long jackets and ephemeral dresses that moved fluidly around the body. A tight edit made the subtle features on these pieces stand out: floral and leaf detailing on otherwise simple looks.

Saris with a long-sleeve blouse had a refreshing crispness while still lightweight enough to wear to beach cocktails or luncheon. There were Sixties' flared miniskirts, bell-bottom shararas and drop waist will-power maxis but the best looks incorporated movement and structure such as the cutout printed gown worn by showstopper Shilpa Shetty. Overall it was a charming show -- with nostalgic styling. Yet it's possible to see how the ensembles would look stunning on a young woman today. Impressed yet again.
