Runway Report

Kshitij Choudhary launched his label and flagship in 2014. His design aesthetic and retail experience is ahead of its time, encouraging people towards avant garde. So, there was much anticipation for his showcase at India Luxury Style Week.

As the first looks came out, one thing was clear — each piece of the collection was an ode to the country's artisanal textiles i.e. chanderi silk, raw silk and pure khadi. Yet the look and feel was modern and globally relevant. It brought back a conversation with him backstage where he told me, ''I've created a diffusion line, a wake up call from the slumber! This collection targets the urban man's rigidity. The mood is urban and upbeat yet it has the organic essence of India.'' He could not have described it better! This collection presented an explicit point of view and attitude.I loved the subtle play of sheer and opaque, and assymetrical silhouettes, drenched in a chocolate palette. The open-neck fluid tunic and bermudas worn by Raj Bisht was perfect for brunch! In fact, there were several embryonic trends!! Sheer pants will be a giant leap for many men — the lowers, gauzily transparent bermudas and pants — were worn with sleeveless opaque layers or a kurta. In a quick reversal, a sheer assymetrical tunic was teamed with opaque outerwear and fluid pants, in solid chocolate. The last line-up, particularly the finale look worn by the suave Purab Kohli, showcased subtly embellished, richly textured traditional menswear that would appeal to the urban bridegroom.

''I truly enjoy creating avant-garde looks but I feel I should make my collections reach out to as many people as possible and this can only be done by striking a right balance between creativity and wearablity'' he grinned after the showcase.
