Runway Report

With a presence in eight countries, Kolkata-based Kiran Uttam Ghosh silhouettes and textures defy being bracketed. For autumn winter, she took a creative designer route of referencing silver in a collection that showcased its potential as forms of embellishment and accessories quite interestingly. "Silver has a certain depth and tribal edge. My bond with it developed from childhood as my grandmother and mother both had a fascination for silver jewellery. As did my first client. During this period, I learnt to appreciate its beauty and potential, which I have showcased through filigree work; collar and hem; mokaish, brocade and mirrorwork; beaten silver cuffs, chokers and ear-cuffs" she explained.

That had my attention! From the first look, silver introduced richness and romanticism to her erstwhile architectural aesthetic. The strongest looks here wore the tribal-inflected theme lightly, diffusing it into cosy sensuousness—to wit, the red kaftan sari with silver gota hem, the halter neck evening gowns and the ingeniously draped dhoti pants. The frenzied applause at the final line-up proved her repute largely rests on the way this bold theme was showed without overshadowing the ensembles.
Creative, Ingenious, Very Very Wearable!
