Runway Report

"I have been going through a period of lull for the last three seasons and Lord Shiva has been a source of great strength during this time. Mrityunjay is Lord Shiva's avatar — the conqueror of death. Without sounding too dramatic, this collection feels like my rise from the ashes…. my comeback" Chandrani Siingh Flora shared with me on a serious note before her showcase sponsored by Boroline at Amazon India Fashion Week.

Yet, did anyone among her guests need this explanation to appreciate the garments? The reason each look stood out is because the Kolkata-based designer didn't allow the theme to tip her clothes over the line into costume. Though it was present in prints featuring symbols of Lord Shiva like the trishul, conch shell and cannabis leaf, this collection is motivated by her focus on dressing intelligent fashion-conscious women. From its sharply tailored printed jackets with sportswear detailing and hoodies, dhoti pants and stylishly draped saris to dresses and skirts, all accessorised with scarves, Chandrani gave loyal customers reason to purchase the ensembles crafted with khadi, jersey and georgettes in shades of rust, midnight blue, ash, deep green, off white and yellow in solids as well as handwoven stripes combined with ombré effects!
