Runway Report

Casual, sporty tailoring with sleek cuts and metal or rope detailing were elements of Arpan Vohra's "new take on the sailor girl" for Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011. You might wonder how many fresh explorations of those well-charted waters there could be, but his easy-breezy tailoring in nautical shades had us dreaming of the beach.

Arpan Vohra has always been a body-conscious designer and the nautical theme offered a straightforward way for him to define the female form. The showing's saucy spirit was evident in bikinis, short belted chiffon dresses, sailor trousers and multi-zipper jackets. One-shoulder swimsuits came with sarongs. To finish, he sent out a white ruffled mini flaunted by Riya Sen. True to his promise, nothing was over-baked. Elegance and simplicity are the strongest points of Vohra's aesthetic and those are qualities that looked most compelling in this collection.
