Runway Report

Every season is a journey for Anuradha Prasad Dhawan. For Resort 2014 she set her sights on Turkey. The Grand Bazaar and fashion houses of Istiklal Street and Nisantasi in Istanbul.. the golden sands and backdrop of mountains at Antalya.. the fairy chimneys and volcanic scenery of Cappadocia.. and the Hookah Rooms and nightclubs by the Bosphorus lent color and soul to her collection.

Right from the opening look.. it was apparent the designer lived for cocktail hour. Not personally.. but professionally. She designed looks for after-dark that glinted with light—crystals being her signature. Starting with a series of crinkled "morning-at-the-bazaar" looks.. she played with short cowls and drapes for a "day-on-a-yacht". The third segment evoked imagery of dusk on the Riviera ending on an opulent note with Turkish pants and evening gowns.

It was her most accomplished collection yet—there was a play on layering particularly in the sheer and the solid as well as shorts and wrapper-pants. Anu PD's signature youthful rock 'n' roll edge underlined the Turkish theme: we loved the white georgette jacket-dress worn over silver-shimmer shorts and the moss wrap pants with lace-hem detail teamed with a copper-shimmer playsuit. Although the label isn't known for simplicity, pared-down pieces including the plum silk kimono worn with a sunset-pink sheer skirt and the sunset-pink crepe-de-chine ombre embroidered hanky top over crinkled silk harem pants were standouts. Those are sure to be popular with practical yet polished chic set as the party fever amps up volume. To employ a hackneyed but in this case apt expression.. the looks were seriously chic.
