Runway Report

When Anand Bhushan tweeted "worm to surface today at 12.45p.m," it was an indicator his autumn winter 2011 collection would spell "unconventional." With tapeworms and "death by bacteria" as his starting point, the light flyaway feeling of the designer's spring collection was replaced by a more structured look.

True to the stated inspiration, Bhushan used architectural silhouettes with an assortment of sequins and swirling zippers. Beyond detailing, the insects' iridescence also turned Bhushan on. His dark, grunge palette ranged from warm neon darks juxtaposed with grays and black. Three-dimensional textures and mixed sequins appeared on LBDs and wool jumpsuits. Though some found the theme hard to digest, it should not, uh, bug anyone if he chooses to add fetishist layers to his signature tailored precision and a spunk stance.
