"I had always wanted to showcase in Pune since a long time as it is the cultural capital of Maharashtra and the hub of students from all over India ie "Oxford of the East". My soul motto is to promote Khadi among the young generation so that we can bring change in the roots" Amyn Farishta told me after his spectacular showcase at Pune Fashion Week.

At the peak of festive season, collections tend to get formulaic, but what caught and held my attention throughout the show titled "Karishmatic Khadi", was how each look was in sync with the vision to showcase edgy looks crafted with khadi, and had a strong retail component. It was truly admirable the way raw khadi i.e. jail khadi and khaddar was dyed and treated and then embellished with bead work and pitta work on zardozi—and crafted into edgy young silhouettes. The red sleeveless asymmetrical dress, the crimson pinstriped shirtdress, the little black dress with red neckline, the black and red cutout dress had a young, urban beat with plenty of attitude. The beautifully draped, asymmetrical gown worn over shorts drove this point home. "Youth is the future for this country — intelligent, powerful and beautiful. The styles I worked on is completely dedicated to them. If India wants a change, it can come only from them" he smiled.

My take? Amin Farishta kept the look simple to showcase the beauty of khadi; thematically, a tribute to Gandhiji. It was brilliance, particularly, the role of khadi in crafting a young, stylish ready-to-wear line so that young people appreciate the versatility of khadi to craft globally relevant, edgy ensembles for day and evening wear. Take a bow!
