ABHISHEK DUTTA
Runway Report

Seemingly inspired by 'Nildarpan'—a play based on the forceful cultivation of indigo in India—Abhishek Dutta's autumn festive 2010 show titled 'Neel Bidroho' attempted to portray their anguish with organic fabrics in natural dyed indigo.

Backstage the designer explained: "The look is simple." That's partly right. There are no bells and whistles in Dutta's designs but there is detailing—the kind that cause the style cognoscenti to sit up and take notice: resham, appliqué and cutwork highlighted with mukaish embellished this season's standouts including structured jackets—asymmetric at times, cholis worn over churidars wrapped nonchalantly with a sarong, pleated skirts with ruffles on the hip and asymmetrical hemmed tunics teamed with sequined shrugs. The result — an enviable ease. There's no predicting the retail weather but the clothes that hit the runway prove this label deserves the attention.
