— EXPLOSIVE FASHION
Just sometime back I admired model and actor Amit Gaur maturing from commercials and campaigns towards acting. Today he's playing the lead of national level swim coach T.K. in “Swim Team” — a popular show on Channel V — and is flooded with accolades, appreciation and exciting new projects. Over to the heartthrob of teen girls and sports fans!
"'Swim Team' was a classic case of being at the right place at the right time. I happened to be at the Endemol office for a meeting and the business head Praver saw me and felt I was absolutely perfect for the role of the coach in this show. So we tested for the character right away and it was sent to the channel who loved me and I was on! The role of the coach — T.K. — is a great one. I was very excited as he is such an intense guy; he is a taskmaster and has great underlying tones to his character plus I haven't gotten the chance to play something like this yet. It is still early days in my career as an actor so I was and am very kicked to portray T.K. I have always enjoyed doing so on set and continue to do so. I still remember the first day of the shoot; my director Khuzema, an extremely relaxed, soft spoken guy gave me a lot of inputs on how T.K. should be. I had to ensure my character was always very reserved but was still a formidable taskmaster when it comes to training. Personally, I am a private person like T.K so I could relate to the character and deliver what my director wanted me to portray. Today I feel good when the channel, the production house and the audience lap up my performance and my look on the show and have lots of positive things to say!!
Being a national swimmer in the show, I had to undergo intense swimming sessions. I had a trainer to monitor my technique and and had to learn other styles more in detail like backstroke, butterflystroke, breaststroke, tumble turn and most of all, I had to perfect my dives. I felt I had to give it all, to portray the role to the T at least, and I have worked hard towards it. I had to undergo two hours of swimming sessions everyday and then off to the gym for an hour and half of serious weight training. I had to make sure my physique looks like that of a swimmer and not a body builder. My diet had to change a bit too. I had to increase the intake of protein in my diet to keep my body ripped but at the same time I made sure I always had a good reserve of energy to keep me going through the day. We always had a trainer and a medical team ready on hand for our safety. Endemol is a great production house and they pay a lot of attention towards the safety of their actors.
Meanwhile, every day is a learning experience. Every project makes one learn something or the other. Here, in this show, I have gotten the opportunity to underplay my character to hold back, to be more intense which is something what I usually don't do in real life. It's definitely something I can keep within me and it will help me grow as an actor and help me in my future projects. Looking forward, the show is currently keeping me busy but I have my health food company SVA which is growing really fast and I aspire to make it into a multi-million dollar company soon!! Besides that, I have a film which will start rolling by mid year and I am very excited about the script. It's an action film and I love doing action films!!"
