OUR PANDEMIC WEDDING

— ESHAA AMIIN

When celebrity stylist Eshaa Amiin tied the knot with beau Siddharth Pradhan in Mumbai, the two- day affair took place in accordance with government-imposed restrictions and guidelines. In conversation with her.

''For all those who are planning to get married during the pandemic, since we have no idea how long it will last, I want to share my experience and advice that may prove helpful to make it successful and safe. I speak from experience since I just got married on 12 July. Initially, we had thought of getting married in May and had invited over five hundred guests from all over the world. But when May was difficult, we waited for a relaxation in the lockdown and decided to get married at the earliest auspicious date. Honestly it was the best timing — when work mode is on, both of us have a hectic schedule that involves travel so we thought: why not get married, settle in and get to know each other now that we have a lot of time on hand?

We chose ITC Maratha as the venue as they have a beautiful ballroom in the garden with three sides made of glass that could be opened up. I have dreamt of a nature- inspired wedding, and had initially planned nuptials on the beach, so this was as close as we could get to our dream location. Speaking of the day of the wedding, there was no air conditioning due to regulations of a wedding during the pandemic, but there were mist fans so guests didn't feel suffocated. The guest listing was restricted to fifty people — thirty guests, ten family members and ten crew members. To keep the ambience festive while maintaining stringent safety precautions, designer masks were given to our guests at the welcome point so they could have some fun coordinating masks with their ensemble. ITC Maratha observed all safety precautions and ensured that there was no contact between guests and service staff. Servers at the counters wore glass shields and round banquet tables that normally seat 8-10 people had seating for four and no one else could stand there.Seats were three- feet apart; servers were not allowed to circulate amongst guests; cutlery and crockery including plates and glasses was sanitised, sealed and could only be opened by the guest.

After having experienced an intimate wedding, I feel it was less stressful than a normal wedding with five hundred odd guests since we did not have to look after guests accommodation and it was an intimate affair as it was just family and code friends. Everyone knew each other and there no formalities; it was a lot of fun. I would highly recommend a marriage during these times and if some of your family and friends cannot be present if they are out of town, they can always be a part of it through a live telecast on social media.''
