LAST 3 YEARS OF MY DECADE IN FASHION

— RAJDEEP RANAWAT

Fashion is evolving… and fashion is an extension of our personality which only makes it individualistic and different from the rest.

This took a while for me to realise even though I was complimented on my creativity all those years I tried to come up with something new… I believed in pushing the limit but keeping in mind the commercial aspect of fashion… and as an artist, all I could think of the white bundles of fabrics in my office to be drenched in colours, embroideries or prints. I finally started liking my own work… I finally believed I had my identity in the industry, in my work, and in all those clients, buyers, fans all over… looking back at them, I realised, I must be pretty decent in what I created!!!

I was ready to settle down, and got married in late 2011, and whilst on our trip to Greece, we stumbled upon this gorgeous island ‘Santorini’… where we spent a good three nights and I couldn’t help but get inspired yet again for Spring Summer 2013… this collection changed our lives... the grills along the houses, the colours of blues and whites, the lovely red and fuchsia bougainvilleas only added to its beauty! This collection added the WOW factor at fashion week and every buyer poured into our stall to do the booking after a rocking show!

We did other such collections as well like ‘Bohemian Legends’, inspired by The Vampire Diaries and other such supernatural legends of the same, and then 'The Celtic Motifs' steeped in European history and its architecture which was completely different yet stunning! The summer of 2014 was a tropical line titled ‘Rococo Goes Tropical’, keeping in mind European inspired elements from the Rococo era entwined with tropical flowers and juicy fruits, which brought this collection the happy colourful factor that it deserved! Once again, we did something new, something that we always believe in doing.

We complete 10 years in the fashion industry this month in October 2014 and we only have learnt so much from struggling and thriving within this matrix! It has helped us become stronger, smarter, adaptive and smoother in the work that we do. Once again, with the end of another successful fashion week for Spring Summer 2015, we can’t wait to show you all that we came up with. I would humbly thank the FDCI, (Fashion Design Council of India) for believing in new talent, for believing in my work, and for approaching us to be a part of the fashion fraternity. I humbly thank my family, friends, stores, buyers and fans for being so supportive in our work and walking by our side in whatever we do… I just simply love my work and can’t think of anything else I'd rather do!

Best of luck to all the budding designers…. just believe in yourself!

Cheers,
Rajdeep
