IN CONVERSATION WITH REYNU TAANDON

— Jasmeen Dugal

The Fashion Design Council of India [FDCI] is gearing up to present a digital edition of India Couture Week, from September 18–23, 2020. A six-day digital event, it will have top couturiers showcase their collection film or video and supporting content, live on a preset show schedule, on FDCI's digital platforms i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and FDCI website. In conversation with designer Reynu Taandon on expectations from her showing.

''The pandemic has instilled unpredictability to the largest annual fashion event, one that brides and their families look forward to each year. However, I'm expecting a lot of visibility during the digital edition of India Couture Week. The reason? We will get the actual brides and the bride's family as audience and our ensembles will be the showstopper. That said, we must not replace the catwalk shows with digital editions… at the physical shows, we have buyers visiting at our stalls and they like the touch and feel factor of ensembles which you won't get at digital shows. The initiative of this phygital India Couture Week by FDCI is a way to change how each and every one of us experiences Fashion. This way, we can participate in the annual event without risking the safety and well-being of anyone. So, we will have E- lookbooks, By Appointment visits and Zoom meetings but this is not going to be a permanent way of doing things. We are all hoping to successfully eradicate the Covid-19 virus and return to normalcy. Until then, as everyone says, 'THIS IS THE NEW NORMAL.'''
