IN CONVERSATION WITH ALESIA RAUT SURRYAVANSHI

Alesia Raut Surryavanshi's transformation from timid finalist in The Times Group's Look Of The Year 1999 to fashion's darling was nothing short of magical. She was a knockout when she entered the industry—and she's still bowling people over with her electrifying presence. She is official Ramp Walk Trainer for Femina Miss India and Miss India Universe. And spearheading Cocoaberry Talent with her sister. In conversation with one of the show directors of Pune Fashion Week.

"We at Cocoaberry and Yatin are so excited about Pune Fashion Week. honestly it is déjà vu! Earlier I was walking for Pune Fashion Week and now I am at front stage! It is so fascinating putting things together; it is another kick altogether and now I am doing it with my sister Anjali and my friend Yatin!! I cannot explain the feelings, the experience! It requires minute detailing though… a lot of preparation so that when the day comes it looks flawless and seamless as far as possible.

A lot of homework goes into putting a runway show together; understanding what a designer aspires to showcase in terms of inspiration, story and creativity. .. and then looking for perfect models to showcase the vision, the narrative. Selecting the correct look, the music, the look and feel, graphics as far as possible and of course lights add a visual treat to the showcase. Undoubtedly, garments are the showstoppers but the small elements create the entire experience. And it all needs to be done way before you come for the fittings and then the show.

I have always been a huge fan of fashion weeks because it provides an opportunity to youngsters to start their career. On one platform, there are so many opportunities to meet the right people. And, particularly, Pune Fashion Week always provides opportunities to the newer lot of models! It truly feels great to be a part of someones journey at the starting point… giving them opportunities to walk and enter the beautiful profession of modelling. Plus, all designers collections are outstanding this season! Each look is so wearable; it is not out of the box! They have the pulse of the consumers and its such that a common layman would pick up and wear immediately!!

As a city, I have always loved Pune! The people here are so warm, understanding and hard working. And the climate is amazing and to do a fashion week in this weather is just fabulous! Moreover, Pune is a fashion hub! A lot of credit goes to Pune Fashion Week for giving a platform to designers from the city and from all over the nation! On a personal note, my survival kit for Pune Fashion Week would be to stay calm so that I can focus and my energy is consumed in the right way! Plus I'm so excited that my husband and I are going to be working together; he is hosting the seminars in the afternoon. Its auspicious too as I have embarked on this new venture on my birthday!!!!!"
