HOPE FAITH TIME AND ME

— CHHAYA MEHROTRA

Saturday night ended with a show with a chilled out Sunday thereafter in an otherwise hectic week with fittings, alterations and rehearsals. It's one thing to do a show with professional models and a completely different ballgame to dress real people for a show. Given the fact that we hardly do such fashion shows or exhibitions.. I guess my personal experience with cancer is what led me confirm it immediately. I can never forget what we went through as my father fought with Cancer few years back. It is a tough time for both the patient and the family. I have seen both survivors and victims of the disease amongst my extended family and friends too and I really admire their spirit.

So the reason for participation was the hope that perhaps I could make a little difference in spreading awareness about this disease since proceeds from the event would be used in cancer research which I think is imperative for the development in cancer research and diagnosis in India. I strongly feel as a country we are equipped with the best of medical facilities but we lag behind when it comes to diagnosis. The talk about Stem Cell Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant was informative during one of the rehearsals for Festival of Hope and I hope it will help the people who listened to it carefully. As for me.. I support stem cell banking and have opted for it. But at the end of the day.. as the issue was to raise awareness for cancer.. a discussion based on personal experiences and lessons learnt during illness.. sharing survivors stories and the latest medical discoveries would have been a great help in the real sense. Nevertheless.. a few miles walked is an attempt made!

As for my show, I showcased my Spring Summer 14 collection and am pleased it received praise for its transcendent palette of ice blue with peach and lemon. My friend and designer Geetanjali Singh, Sonia Jetley and her daughter Meher, Swati Modo and entrepreneur Leher Sethi walked for my show. I also found new friends among the ladies who had volunteered to walk for me through Festival of Hope. But what everyone really loved about my  show was the soulful singing by my special guest flown in from Mumbai whom I call a friend and confidante.. role model and simply one of the most stunning women I have ever met: art connoisseur and singer Geetu Hinduja. Geetu was not only my showstopper.. she is someone I admire.. someone whose values inspire me. She has done her bit for the cause of Cancer having lost her own sister to it. Her beautiful song “Hope Faith Time and Me” takes me  back to the time I spent in Mumbai for my dad ailing with cancer. I could say its an anthem for the survivors and their family. If only all of this makes an impact on even one cancer survivor.. we would feel we have accomplished our aim.
