Gone are the days of portfolios where models were required to look Ms. Perfect or Mr. Perfect... once compulsory in a model's handbook. The scenario has changed and so have the norms.
New generation photographers and some fashion and Bollywood photographers don't hesitate to shoot natural candid shots; they say 'we love it, we don't mind shooting an average model or unconventional looking models. We know the right way to shoot them.' Now models don't want to look perfect, they want to flaunt their skin tone and don't like thir images being photoshopped to appear fair. Some don't even opt for wigs as they want their own hair color and own hairstyle to be used.
Says Nitesh N Nitesh, Photographer, who loves shooting natural pictures and loves to capture the real person: 'It doesn't matter what the trend in the industry is or what the requirement is, I love shooting in the outdoors in natural light, plus the way photographers are shooting folios in that natural light, change is bound to happen.
Says Dilip Yande, Photographer, 'Photoshop up to cleaning the image is fine, and yes giving a tone or a treatment to the picture is acceptable, but it should not take away from realism. I am not against excess make-up, that's fine and it is as per the need of the job. But skin texture has to be visible. High photoshopped images look plastic.'
This is a fantastic trend... to portray in the pictures who YOU really are, so that when people are casting, they can see the real you, your persona your attitude and style, and not some 'wanna be'. Candid shots have become popular with time. Right from the director to clients, all prefer to see candid shots. They say, 'if we have to cast a model we don't want to see how beautifull she looks in a picture where she has worn the best clothes, contact lenses, wigs, too much make-up and the image has been under the scanner of Photoshop... all we want to see is the look, attitude and expressions, everything else can be changed later on as per our requirment.
