''I've titled the collection 'Yajna' — the transformation of one form of energy into another. The universe is interwoven in the vaults of heaven on shuttle wheels backwards and forwards by the threads extended, drawn out, spreading on every side, the acts of a hundred 'gods' — the world is woven. The concept gave me a new perception to relate with textile. When a thread sacrifices its individuality it becomes fabric. I've treated the fabric as thread and sometimes thread as the fabric. The garment has different layers that travel through an unfinished underneath layer to the smooth finished layer where I've transformed handwoven khadi into fluid asymmetric drapes'' Vaishali Shadangule told me before her show at Amazon India Fashion Week.

For Vaishali S, SS16 minimalism didn't mean minimal options. The technique to a handloom look in a monochrome palette is drape and texture and she created hers this season with intricate mesh detailing that added depth to tunics, dresses, translucent jackets and saris. The play of sheer and opaque with asymmetrical layering created a theatrical effect on the catwalk. I absolutely loved the ivory sari worn with a riffed full-sleeve black blouse! Put it all together and a complete wardrobe emerges. I found it remarkable how Vaishali captured the modernity, the airiness and the immediateness of the creations with a traditional fabric like handwoven khadi.
