VAISHALI S
Runway Report

Vaishali S' clientele have come to expect traditional garments interpreted in a modern style each season but the label really pulled out all its stops today. The autumn winter 2013 collection is an ode to the attire of Assamese women: Mekhla Chadar. The elements — a sarong worn with a blouse in the form of a long length of cloth with one end tucked into the sarong and the rest draped over and around the body, accessorised with a cloth draped over the shoulders — gelled together to create standout looks.

Beautiful drapes brought out its splendor while retaining its original elements generated interest among the traditionalists. There was something for everyone. A random fall in the garment surprised us when it appeared like a flower while a brilliant palette and metallic threadwork woven painstakingly by hand [elevating the artisan over the machine], fine cutwork and surface textures on wool transformed the Assamese garment into a winner for the red carpet. All in all.. there were plenty of individual looks for the label's fashion-conscious customer to add to her closet.
