Runway Report

There are moments in Fashion that moved me, and not just because of the garments. I was struck by the sense of community created — one that felt energized, authentic and made each guest a part of something bigger. Last night, the founders of Karmsakshi Sewa Sansthan and Swawlamban hosted a fashion show by Sumona Parekh, where survivors of acid attacks walked the ramp alongside models. This sense of community felt considerably more powerful than any statement designers tried to make on the runway this season as the organisers employed Fashion to garner support for the victims of atrocities in a way that didn't feel preachy or didactic.

Speaking about the show choreographed by Liza Verma, Sumona Parekh presented bridalwear crafted with Khadi cotton and enhanced with handblock prints. The stunning pastel and red ensembles received much acclaim by guests Hon'ble MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Dr. Shobha Vijender, Neelam Rudy, Ustaad Shujaat Khan, Padam Shri Kathak Maestro Shovana Narayan and Shahnaz Husain to name a few.
