"We have used the most elaborate techniques in couture. Our vision as designers has always been to take India to the world, using Fashion as a medium to connect global audiences to our rich crafts and artisan techniques" said the duo before their showing at India Couture Week. Muse Of Mirrors by Shyamal and Bhumika showcased the duo's signature avant-garde embroideries and detailing, and enhanced with exquisite jewellery by RK Jewellers.

It's rare to see the workmanship of couture and contemporary chic in a single collection—and all the more exciting when it's creations inspired by royalty. The designers used tiers of eco-friendly matka silks, raw silks, fine crepes and georgettes, diaphanous tulle and organza — delicately hand embroidered with aari, zardozi and pitta forming vines, bouquets, petals and vintage crests. Vintage rose gold zari and silken threads were hand embroidered on scalloped floral hems, enhanced with sequins to give a painterly effect. Showstopper Kiara Advani was the quintessential modern regal bride in a sea green lehenga splashed with floral detailing; the choli with sheer ruched sleeves and the whimsical train completed the look.

The result? Though the intricate detailing transformed each garment into a heirloom, never once did craft overwhelm its modern character. Filled with lustworthy pieces, this collection by Shyamal Bhumika is worth raiding for a heirloom bridal finery… so what are you waiting for?
