SAMANT CHAUHAN
Runway Report

Each season Samant Chauhan unfolds a compelling narrative on the catwalk. For Autumn Winter 2016, he took his fascination with The Silk Route—and gave it a stylish spin titled "Rajputana". "This season, my collection showcases my journey to Nepal, Tibet and China with its exotic landscape. My idea is to show how fearless people there, with sheer grit and courage, survive harsh weather and hostile attacks" he explained. That's strong imagery — just like the collection — beautifully crafted from Bhagalpur silk and cotton silk, hand woven using zari, dori and dabka.

It was his interpretation of 'India Modern' — a predominant Indian collection with Oriental contour. Samant is renowned for conceptual collections that are structured in stylish wearable silhouettes—and this was no exception. Hot-sellers include the ivory A line dress and the dusty brown front open gown—both painstakingly embellished with exquisite zari and dori. My personal favourite was the rose pink jacket-style dress with zari and dori, which made a pretty picture with Rapunzel braids!! Each look was majestic and this showing was about the delightful showmanship that I've come to expect from Samant Chauhan! In straight-up shoppability terms, its primed as a hot-seller, giving the powerhouse designer impetus to push his creative exploration further next season.
