Runway Report

A homegrown brand rooted in Indian culture, craft and community and global relevance, Raw Mango by Sanjay Garg draws from the colors, philosophies and cultures of India to create a unique voice. Last weekend, he unveiled 'Bageecha' under the treetops of Taj Westend Bengaluru, which had every person in the packed-to-the-rafter outdoor mesmerised as the first looks were sent out.

It was a deceptively simple collection. On closer look, I could only admire the sheer depth of talent. Garg showcased contemporary kurtas, lehengas and saris weaved with silk brocade and organza — complemented with Amrapali jewels. I also loved the way he relied on the warp and weft of textiles for a subtle sheen. All of it culminated in the jugalbandi of lightweight textile and handloom techniques to craft a beautiful line of warm angoori, lavender, midnight black and chatak peela minimalist summer ensembles. My last impression? With no theatrical set and taped music — just sapheras enthralling guests with live music — and the marked absence of statement make-up or hair, the look was simple, subtle and elegant, with focus firmly on the ensembles.

"We opened our flagship in Bengaluru three months back and this showing is an extension of that celebration. Bengaluru welcomed us with open arms and I would like to dedicate my summer edit to this beautiful city of gardens" he explained.
