RAHUL MISHRA
Runway Report

Rahul Mishra Spring Summer 2013 at WIFW put him on track as one of the most enlightening uplifting designers on the roster. It was indeed remarkable to witness once again how his signature combines the cerebral and the sensual to a degree that is rare in fashion.

Upholding his commitment to highlight traditional fabric and design, Mishra opened the showing with looks steeped in inspiration from Kerala that were crafted using organic Khadi and then shifted to his signature geometrical patterns to form a collection that communicated its multi-faceted personality with grace. Reversal—worn inside-outside—was the idea behind a large part of the collection including hand-woven reversible Kerala wrap, tunic and jacket dresses. These were the kind of winning looks that he has designed effortlessly in the past and has made it his trademark. Ivory and gold paved the way for shots of neon as models showed silk chiffon or silk organza draped and hand-embroidered dresses — some worn with pants. The winning look was definitely the hand-woven and hand-embroidered poncho teamed with hand-embroidered Lycra leggings that closed the showing. Yes this designer is certainly a cultural touchstone.
