Runway Report

Pale green and dusk rose, powder blue and light grey… Payal Singhal drenched her show at Amazon India Fashion Week in muddy pastels. This played up to the two sides of her aesthetic on display. One was ethereal, almost angelic; the other was seductively racy. And it was that romantic, sensuous vein the collection tapped as they both coalesced into statement looks for the red carpet and pre-bridal parties.

The showing opened with a pastel blue lehenga whipped up from Chantilly lace that floated beautifully over the body and softly kissed the floor. I could imagine it gliding over the lush grounds at an upscale pre-wedding party. Ditto for a lace cropped top and overlay pants. Continuing to draw on the label's DNA, Payal showed a series of dusk rose garments that highlighted her signature draping. The flirty off-shoulder, embroidered lace kurta with palazzos was a standout. As was the hand embroidered bustier with tulle dhoti pants. And the embroidered cape worn over a bustier and low-crotch overlay pants, an effervescent touch that made it easy to imagine why the young loyalists who pack her front row gravitate toward her label. On the bridal side of the equation, highlights include a rosette hand embroidered net crop jacket over a silk bustier and lavishly embroidered silk lehenga. And a pale green embroidered crop sari worn with an embroidered choli and tiered net underskirt.

Walking out of the showing to the sound of enthusiastic applause, I could not help feel most looks were perfect for a radiant bride and her closest friends in any part of the globe… there is a small universe of girls dreaming about how such garments could transport them into an elevated stratosphere… fairytales can come true!
