NIDA MAHMOOD
Runway Report

Nida Mahmood Autumn Winter '13 was a tight, well-conceived collection. This wasn't a rococo romp — instead there was a mélange of traditional textiles i.e. weaves from Narayanpet and tussars from Bhagalpur with a modern interpretation of Bengal's kantha work and daboo printing from Rajasthan. The theatric element was restricted to off-kilter accessories.

Standout pieces were printed pants embellished with studs and sequins. Neon kaftans captured the collection's verve while another eye-catcher was a sari blouse with epaulette detailing. The palette ('inspired by the Eco-Passionate Organic traveller') prints and accessories (cat-eye glasses and headgear!) were psychedelic but the clean structure was a shade more subtle. Yes if Nida Mahmood's last season was essentially about looking.. this season was about creating a feeling through structure, texture and print. Reflecting back on 'Adventures of Capt. Must! Qalandar', it had cohesiveness, immediacy in color and an off-kilter coziness. Impressive.
