MASABA FOR SATYA PAUL
Runway Report

Masaba had no familiarity with designing couture before she presented a 25-piece demi couture line for Satya Paul at PCJ Delhi Couture Week last night but lack of experience did nothing to damp her creativity. "This is the first time I have ventured into couture therefore the design process was instinctive and just took its own flow. RTW has various technicalities whereas this is more organic and inspired" she explained to us.

It was an easy story to follow through the looks Masaba created, starting with garments that were structured in the demi-couture style and shifting to simpler summery silhouettes and fabrics, even some vintage pieces. Her take on floral was x-rayed daffodils, roses, iris and lotus on organza, Lycra knits, georgette and chiffon and botanical patterns patchworked, embellished and recreated as textile fabrications. The designer's aim was understated glamour and she kept silhouettes clean, (some layered with sheer fabric) drawing attention to floral prints with light embellishment. That worked well with an x-ray printed sheer lace sharara paired with a formal knit jacket though the gowns with a modest neckline and lapel and the sari draped over a sheer jumpsuit were standouts. I loved the black jacket with oversized white flowers that would look just as neat with denim as it did with the tulle skirt! In a print-heavy season this is a collection that deserves to stand out.
