ASHISH N SONI

Runway Report

With this collection, Ashish N Soni is hoping to offer a practical solution to the modern man. His original aesthetic of the sleek uniform for the city-centric man was revisited. The designer started by looking at classics, but redefined them with an artistic experimental approach. Shades of black, grey white — and minimalistic aesthetic — form the base for suave menswear crafted with fabrics like velvet and jacquard, with embroideries, chrome lapels and black zardozi.

New developments for SS17 include 'Puddle Pant' — an adaptation of flared pants, with dramatic silhouettes at the bottom, bringing in visual drama and a break from conventional menswear. But some of Soni's simpler propositions were the most appealing. As an example, the voluminous trousers with wider leg and longer length, that gives the appearance of gathered folds at the hem. It's certainly the solution to the modern man's need to stand out in an increasingly crowded fashion milieu. Layered looks is another summer trend, i.e. pairing short double breast jackets with puddle pants. It's that sort of ambiguous touch that gives these looks their personality. Which makes them stand out, in fact. Up close,  of course, it’s easy to see how that one-of-a-kind quality keeps his customers coming back!
