TRATTORIA LOUNGE

To appreciate the breadth and scope of the rustic Italian dishes comprising Trattoria's menu, I recommend going there with friends and ordering soup, antipasti and entrées that you can share. However, since we were two, we opted for another delightful option — laidback luncheon. Sitting back with a flute of white wine, at a table with seats you could sink into, Meenu Namit and I observed the ristorante was a well conceived result of fine-tuning, experimenting and pushing the envelope to present authentic rustic Italian. 

 

Before I dive into the review, I'd like to mention that though "rustic" conjures thoughts of simplicity, it's challenging to achieve authentic flavour. Trattoria Lounge has achieved it — in spades! Perusing the menu, we ordered antipasti — salads and assorted bruschetta. Rocket leaves and thinly sliced pears, pine nuts and percino cheese were in a playful pile, drizzled with honey… Fresh Rocket Salad was designed to refresh the palate with its contrasting textures. Up next was Caesar Salad where the romaine, tomatoes, parmesan, sliced chicken and croutons blended well with the homemade dressing; the freshness and lightness was what impressed. The bruschetta platter was served next — the cherry tomatoes on homemade bread was juicy and flavourful. Hey! You might have noticed I've liberally used words "fresh" and "light" — it's the hallmarks of rustic Italian! Perusing the menu again for entrees as the server refilled our flutes of wine, we decided on pizzas, pastas and risotto. Since my friend was vegan, I had the risotto with sliced chicken, cherry tomatoes, ricotta and zucchini, all to myself! It was delicious comfort food. I kept wondering how one person could finish off the platter but found myself doing just that! And then my friend's much-awaited homemade pasta with spinach and mushroom sauce arrived. She mentioned it was a perfectly seasoned preparation which she would be back for. And then the thin-crust pizzas arrived! Trust me, each slice topped with Parma ham, mozzarella, mushrooms and tomato sauce drew appreciative murmurs — and I wolfed it down in no time! My friend's glazed expression spoke volumes about her vegetarian pizza topped with potatoes, onion, mozzarella, garlic and oregano. We finally ended luncheon at 4 p.m. with chocolate mousse — it made us appreciate the term "dessert nirvana".

 

Reflecting on the experience, it's easy to see why discerning foodies have a love affair with Trattoria Lounge even though it’s weeks old. It's the attention to detailing whether it's the efficient service, the music or the authentic dishes. Other reasons to eat here include homemade breads and sauces and the generous portions so no one feels "I didn't have enough!" Buon Appetite. (31.5.2015)
