Indian restaurants

Located in Gurgaon.. Crystal Jade has been quietly preparing some of the tastiest a la carte Chinese dishes I have had in a while. How did I find out about this fine dining restaurant with a modern look devoid of the standard red-gold-black fixtures and ornate lighting? I was invited to review the two-month-old restaurant which is present across 18 cities in 9 countries.. and is now in Delhi NCR.

I was first to arrive and was served Treasure Tea as I perused the menus. The transparent tea pot with green tea steeped in exotic nuts and flowers was unlike anything I had seen before in terms of presentation and taste. Crystal Jade's dimsum and a la carte menu boasts an appealing line-up of dimsums and entrées.. so many that one has to return several times to enjoy the broad range of seafood and meat dishes! Sipping tea, we waited for my friend Archana to join us and then things moved rapidly. I remember our expression of delight when 'Multi Flavor Xiao Long Bao' arrived—a platter of assorted vegetarian-chicken-mutton bao served on a soup spoon. The color of each of the six baos were distinctly different and indicative that care had been taken in selection and presentation. It was artistically compelling and flavorful. Next to arrive was 'Carrot and Mushroom Steamed Cakes' with a sauce that enhanced the flavors of these steamed treats.

Once we moved on to heartier dishes we were amply rewarded. The fragrance from 'Braised Spinach Beancurd and Assorted Mushroom' taunted our appetite. Up next was 'Peking Roasted Duck'—one of those satisfying dishes that makes it hard to contemplate anything else. The server cut through the duck and placed several strips on a plate. The plum sauce rubbed on strips of tender duck wrapped in pancake was a source of gustatory pleasure through the dinner. We can't say it's the best we've ever had but it was a worthy contender! The steamed fish and assorted vegetables tossed in their signature sauce is another winner. We constantly sipped Treasure Tea during this feast and the servers came over several times to check on us and inquire if we required anything. Conversation flowed and soon it was time for dessert—the 'Mango Soufflé' packed with diced mangoes was a fitting finale to an extravagant meal!

Reflecting on the experience.. Crystal Jade is fairly large and we got the impression no corners cut in providing a luxurious culinary experience. The chefs did a remarkable job in the execution of the menu so that everything was fresh hot and delicious. Just two months old.. this chic restaurant has already attracted an eclectic neighborhood and corporate clientele—the manager mentioned most of the luncheon set were Chinese or Korean which is a great indicator of the dishes' authenticity. I highly recommend dining here with friends and family. I'll be back soon for the 'Pan Fried Omelet with Shrimp' and their signature 'Braised Pork Belly'. Bon Appetite! (25.4.2014)
