Cohiba. I was introduced to this alfresco bar and kitchen by a dear friend Himesh Arora, who is Partner, when I was in Goa for India Beach Fashion Week. I still remember the passion with which he described it as "a charming place with sumptuous food, cocktails and live band that will have you on your feet" — that inspired me to drive down from Park Hyatt in South Goa where I was staying to Cohiba in Sinquerim, North Goa an hour away — and I could feel pulsating music and a great vibe the moment I entered. I would describe it as simple elegance (loved the wall packed with pictures of Fidel Castro and Hollywood divas). High chairs with tangerine upholstery add a pop of colour to tables styled on beer barrels and a bar that stretches across the place. That night, we had the most delicious lamb chops and chilled beer… before the live band got us singing along, clapping along and moving on the floor!

Last week, I returned to Goa, and there was no doubt in my mind I would be heading to Cohiba! Himesh had texted from Bengaluru that there was a great band playing on the second night I was there so when their PR consultant got in touch with me to "check it out”, I agreed. It was a different band this time but one that equally fabulous — I say this with conviction as I am not into live retro music but it had me moving in seconds — it was not the effect of beer since I was not drinking that evening; it was sheer love of their music (wish I had the name of the band but the PR was in party mode and didn't share any information about the place she took me to "review" so I'm clueless... hmm Goa). That said, I highly recommend visiting Cohiba when you head to Goa! It's the purrfect place for alfresco dinner (the live grill, I hear, is famous) followed by cocktails and dancin' — on the floor or under the starlit skies. Cheers! (8.4.2015)
