I had been hearing a lot about the newly opened luxury concept hotel in Aerocity. That’s why I was so excited to stay in and experience Andaz Delhi — A Concept By Hyatt. Imbued with Pop interiors, good service and sumptuous local and world cuisine — the hotel has 401 loft-style guest-rooms including suites, serviced apartments and rooms with king or twin beds, workstation and day bed, some with a view of the airport runway | ballroom, courtyard and Andaz Studio | Pool and Gym | food hall Annamaya which sources local ingredients for each dish and retails goodies and crockery | Gin and Tonic bar, Juniper. The boutique hotel has made of use of space artistically and flexible, free-flowing spaces invite working on a laptop, meetings or relaxing at the library with one of their books!
Now, Andaz Delhi has a welcome offer ongoing, at INR 9888. The promotion, Love Delhi Opening, includes breakfast, airport transfers, 24-hour check-in, complimentary non-alcoholic minibar, wi-fi and local calls. Once I received an e-mail from the hotel team, I requested for an upgrade to the runway-facing View Room. It was immediately confirmed!! Coming to my stay, the design cues is a quirky take on elegance. It's high style everywhere.. without airs! The concept of Andaz hotels is locally inspired… given that Andaz in Urdu is an expression of personal style. And, speaking of personal style, the staff does not wear uniform! One greeted me at in a lacy coat and shortly I spotted another in dungarees. Whoa!! Apparently, six sets of everyday wear have been designed by Lecoanet Hemant for Andaz Delhi and employees can choose three sets which suit their personal style!
I was refreshingly surprised by the check-in procedure too. A designated host logged in to check me in, helped me with bags and brought me up to View Room. Walking in to the room, I could not help but wonder how all the details feel one-of-a-kind, which adds to the premium feel. For example, my room had mango leaves engraved on the entrance, believed to ward off negative energy! Inside, a king bed, daybed lining the wall with a view of the airport runway [I was in child mode photo-bombing flights take off and land] and a long table in front of the daybed that could be used for work or dining… lots of space to move around. The floor-length mirrors made me secure that my ensemble was just right. So far, it ticked the box! The rest of the day was spent chilling by the poolside sun deck with landscaped gardens, indulging in bespoke cocktails and shopping for artisanal products like handcrafted black tea, marmalade and chocolates! I love the quirky details at Annamaya such as the flower sculpture which added a lovely dose of character. Another box ticked. The following morning, I woke lazily to a sumptuous breakfast spread at Annamaya where the buffet has tons of options, making my morning a happy one!
Until check out, that is. Yes, hospitality and discreet luxury during the stay was top notch! However, hospitality doesn't end the moment you are checking out! Case in point:: the sardar receptionist misplaced my credit card and kept insisting its with me till I emptied my handbag on the counter and demanded he open the drawers at the counter — and there it was! No apology in sight!!! What's more, their ambassador cars are stylish but not when air-conditioning malfunctions and I had to sweat it out for hours — the staff did not reply to emails on why they had given me a expensive car that stops every few minutes and air-conditioning doesn't work!! The attitude? The guest has checked out so we needn't be polite any longer! After such a wonderful stay, this was disappointing and not what one expects from a luxury hotel charging top dollar!
