IN CONVERSATION WITH PRERNA RAJPAL

Fine jewellery brand Amaris was launched in 2010. From collaborating with Industry legends Rohit Bal and Suneet Varma to being the toast of Bollywood icons, Amaris has since built a roster of loyal customers in India, Dubai and New York. In conversation with the designer, Prerna Rajpal.

 

‘'An opportunity to design jewelry for my mother-in-law's client back in 2010 led me from the financial world of global consulting firms to the hallowed portals of jewellery design and craftsmanship. With an eye for detail, and the creative challenge and opportunity to work at the source with Karigar,s motivated me to plunge full-time into designing jewellery. I honed my skill by becoming an Accredited Jewelry Professional from Gemological Institute of America. So, despite the uncertainty of leaving behind my Chartered Accountancy and American CPA degrees, I conceptualised fine jewellery brand, 'Amaris', while living in New York — with a vision of bringing couture jewellery to Indian women at affordable prices. Because, I believe fine jewellery must be alive, be seen and not just be bought for investment!!

 

At Amaris, we combine unique modern designs with a colourful palette. One of my favourite pieces is an emerald and diamond choker. Right from the design board to sourcing the gemstone and finally manufacturing the piece… we stepped out of our comfort zone to crafted it from sketch to reality. It took us three hundred man hours to complete this masterpiece which went through stringent levels of quality check; each member of the team was closely involved throughout the process until we were all satisfied with the final outcome!! Looking forward, we plan to scale up aggressively over the next few years — with store-in-store collaborations, alliances with leading fashion designers and expanding our global footprint with International shows and tie-ups.''
