One thing Lakmé Fashion Week does exceptionally well is foster emerging talent and help shape the future of fashion. For the uninitiated, LFW Gen Next Designer Programme has given Indian fashion, design luminaries like Rahul Mishra, Masaba Gupta and Aneeth Arora. Each season, selection is done by the advisory board following which handpicked designers undertake a two-month training programme with mentor, Sabina Chopra. And though it's fantastic to discover new creative talent, a relatively new initiative 'Gen Next On The Road' gives this talent access to buying houses nationwide, by providing them an opportunity to exhibit their collections in leading multi-designer stores nationwide.

This season, the first leg of the four-city tour commenced at Aza in New Delhi followed by Aura in Raipur, Urban in Hyderabad and Amethyst in Chennai. The stores had a dedicated section to showcase the collections of Amrapali Singh, Madhumita Nath, Sunaina Khera and Ujjwala Bhadu. ''It is a platform that gives young designers the opportunity to engage with diverse consumers from across the country and address consumer needs and preferences first-hand. It also gives them the experience to understand the commercial side of the business…'' explained Jaspreet Chandok, Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance.
